Pattachitra is the term for cloth-based scroll painting that is common in eastern Indian states of Odisha and West Bengal, and the tradition is over a thousand years old. The term Pattachitra, combines “Patta” meaning cloth and “Chitra” meaning picture, indicating the form of paintings that is used to depict stories on cloth. The subjects of Patta Chitra are mostly mythological, religious stories and folklore.
